Google May Be Giving Business Profile Posts More Visibility
Google Business Profile Posts have historically appeared relatively low in many local business panels—the information people see when they look up a company on Google. That can make useful updates easy to miss. Google is now reportedly testing a higher position for Posts. If that placement becomes permanent, offers, announcements and recent work could become more noticeable to people already viewing a profile. For now, this is an observed test, not an officially announced permanent change.

What Google appears to be testing
Illustration, not a Google screenshot. Higher placement could make Posts easier to notice; it does not establish greater reach or higher rankings.
Search Engine Roundtable reported on October 19, 2026 that Google Posts were appearing higher in some local knowledge panels. These panels show details about a business when someone searches for it. The report cited local-search expert Ben Fisher, who observed the Posts section moving higher and then returning to its previous position every few days.
That back-and-forth suggests a layout test rather than a completed rollout. Google has not announced or confirmed the higher placement, how many profiles are included, or whether it will become permanent. Posts appearing lower on your profile does not mean anything is wrong.
What are Google Business Profile Posts?
Posts let a business share timely information directly on its profile. Google's official documentation about Business Profile Posts explains that businesses can publish Updates, Offers and Events on Search and Maps so customers can learn what is happening with the business. This official support for Posts is separate from the unconfirmed placement test.
Within those formats, useful content can include:
• General business updates and announcements• Special offers and events• New services• Completed projects and recent work• Seasonal reminders• Photos or videos• Relevant links and action buttons
Google's help page also says Posts older than six months are archived unless a date range is set. Review what customers can currently see rather than assuming an old update will remain visible indefinitely.
Why a higher position could matter
This appears to be a visibility and presentation change, not a confirmed ranking change. A Post that sits higher on the page may be easier for someone to notice after they encounter the Business Profile.
If Google displays Posts more prominently, potential customers may be more likely to:
• Notice a current offer• Discover a service they did not know the business provided• See recent work or company updates• Visit the business's website• Call, book or take another relevant action• See the business as current and actively managed
A Business Profile may be someone's first meaningful interaction with your company. A helpful update can build trust before the first call. These are potential benefits, not guaranteed results.
Does posting improve Google Maps rankings?
There is no confirmed evidence that publishing more Posts directly improves Google Maps rankings. This placement report does not establish a new ranking factor, and businesses should not begin publishing low-quality or repetitive content simply because Posts may appear higher.
Better placement could make your Posts more valuable to the people viewing your profile, but that is not the same as proving that Posts improve your rankings.
Posts can help someone understand your business once they find your profile, without being a proven cause of higher rankings. For the broader picture, see Google's local ranking factors.
What business owners should do now
No drastic strategy change is necessary while the placement remains a test. A quick review of your existing content is a sensible place to start:
1. Review the Posts currently appearing on your Business Profile through Google Search and Google Maps.2. Remove or update anything outdated, inaccurate or no longer useful.3. Publish information that genuinely helps potential customers understand your business.4. Use clear, professional photos whenever appropriate, especially real examples of your work.5. Include a relevant call to action when there is a useful next step, such as viewing a service page or booking an appointment.6. Keep offers, dates, links and service information accurate.7. Prioritize consistency and quality instead of posting simply to meet an arbitrary frequency.8. Continue monitoring your profile because Google may move sections or change how information is displayed.

What this means for Nearby Calls clients
For Nearby Calls clients, there is nothing new they need to set up. Creating and publishing useful Google Business Profile content is already part of how we keep their profiles active and informative. If Google ultimately gives Posts a more prominent position, those businesses will already have relevant content available for potential customers to see.
Posts can highlight services, offers, completed work and useful business information. Nearby Calls also monitors Business Profile changes so clients do not have to keep up with every Google test themselves. The focus is useful content and ongoing care—not promised rankings or guaranteed results.
The bottom line
Google may be testing a more noticeable position for Business Profile Posts, but the placement is not a confirmed permanent change. You do not need to chase the test. Keep your Posts accurate, relevant and current so they are useful wherever Google displays them.
